About The Position

Under the guidance of the Supervisor of Vascular Laboratory, this role assists in the coordination of all activities performed in the Laboratory, including performing vascular imaging studies. The Vascular Sonographer is responsible for performing vascular imaging studies, coordinating with patient care teams, maintaining records, and ensuring the quality of vascular ultrasound studies. This position also acts as an educational resource and ensures equipment is functioning properly. Participation in holiday rotation, quality improvement audits, and maintaining credentials are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or certification through an accredited ultrasound program OR Bachelor’s degree in ultrasound or radiologic field
  • 1-2 years of Vascular Ultrasound work experience
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)
  • Carotid
  • Upper and lower extremity venous including venous insufficiency
  • Upper and lower arterial duplex including bypass grafts and stents
  • PVR
  • Mesenteric arterial duplex
  • Fistulas
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)
  • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and assists in all activities performed in the Vascular Laboratory.
  • Runs Vascular Lab completely in absence of supervisor and lead technologist.
  • Works with supervisor on a daily basis to coordinate lab activities.
  • Performs assigned tasks as well as performs exams.
  • Coordinates with patient care teams to ensure accurate and timely exams.
  • Maintains reports, records and collects statistics.
  • Assures delivery of quality vascular ultrasound studies demonstrating competency in all studies while following guidelines/protocols provided by the IAC.
  • Quality of vascular studies are monitored continuously.
  • Recognizes normal vs abnormal anatomy.
  • Acts as an educational resource to patients, observing students and coworkers.
  • Assists with orientation of new staff members or students as requested.
  • Assures that all equipment is functioning properly.
  • Checks equipment daily.
  • Notifies supervisor of equipment malfunction.
  • Participates in the holiday rotation.
  • Participates in quality improvement audits and meetings.
  • Responsible for maintaining credentials and CME requirements for registration.
