About The Position

Theatre/Technical Crew Student Employees provide support for Performing Arts Center shows, events, and classes. Students will be trained on construction and painting techniques for theatrical scenery, industry standards for installation, operation, and maintenance of lighting, audio, and film/video equipment, and setting up risers, chairs, and music stands. Additional opportunities are available for Event Staffing and Backstage Crew. This is an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning in a group environment.

Requirements

• Must be a currently enrolled at Oakton College in at least 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters.
• Employment over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer, or students continuing registration into the following Fall semester.
• Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Friendly, flexible, able to work on a team, and be good with your hands.
• Must be able to lift 15lbs regularly
• Must be able to wear personal protective gear correctly

Nice To Haves

• Ability to safely climb ladders and work at heights preferred
• Experience in theater, art, film or photography is a plus, but not necessary.

Responsibilities

• Construction and painting of scenery and furniture
• Installation, operation, and maintenance of lighting, audio, and video equipment
• Event staffing and backstage conventions - Student Employees are expected to move scenery and set up props with minimal supervision.
• Provide support for Performing Arts Center shows, events, and classes including but not limited to: moving risers, furniture, and class equipment.
• Communicate with staff and supervisor regarding any challenges or issues that arise during each assignment and collaborate with staff in finding resolutions.
• Complete other projects as assigned
