About The Position

Archbishop Hannan High School is seeking an enthusiastic and visionary Theater Director to lead our Blackfriars Drama Program beginning with the 2026–2027 academic year. This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape a vibrant theatrical community rooted in artistic excellence, student leadership, and Catholic values. The Theater Director will oversee all aspects of the school's drama productions and drama club while mentoring students in grades 8–12 through meaningful creative experiences. About the Blackfriars The goal of the Archbishop Hannan High School Blackfriars is to positively represent our school in our community by creating artistic, expressive opportunities for students through theatre arts. The drama club, previously known as The Performing Hawks, debuted in the spring of 1991 in Meraux, LA and is now lovingly known as the Blackfriars.

Requirements

  • Prior directing and/or theatrical production experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience mentoring and working with high school students
  • Knowledge of theatrical production processes
  • Availability for after-school rehearsals, evening events, and weekend performances
  • Bachelor's degree or formal training in Theatre, Performing Arts, Arts Education, or a related field preferred

  • Serve as moderator for the International Thespian Society, Troupe 8649 (optional based on candidate interest and experience)

Responsibilities

  • Direct and produce two major productions annually, including: One non-musical play, One full-length musical
  • Lead auditions, casting, rehearsals, and performances
  • Collaborate on all production elements including: Set design, Costumes, Lighting, Music, Choreography
  • Oversee the Blackfriars Drama Club
  • Serve as moderator for the International Thespian Society, Troupe 8649 (optional based on candidate interest and experience)
  • Prepare students for participation in the Louisiana Thespian Festival
  • Manage production budgets, schedules, ticketing, and administrative operations
  • Coordinate promotion and marketing efforts with the school communications team
  • Work collaboratively with parent volunteers and school leadership
  • Foster a safe, organized, creative, and inclusive environment for students
