About The Position

Seeking a High School Substitute Theater Director to direct our 2026-2027 December and/or March shows for the Yoh Theatre Program. The program is dedicated to theater education and ensures all interested students are included and cast. Each show runs for eight weeks with three performances. The substitute director must be available for all working hours during the show's run, dedicating up to 30 hours per week.

Requirements

• Must be present during all working hours of the run
• Up to 30 hours a week of work
• Experience directing theater productions
• Ability to manage and direct student actors and technical crews
• Strong communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and volunteers
• Ability to create and manage a rehearsal schedule

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with high school theater programs
• Familiarity with theater education principles
• Experience collaborating with designers and parent volunteers

Responsibilities

• Choosing and casting the play(s)
• Creating and implementing a rehearsal calendar
• Communicating with parents and the school community
• Directing rehearsals with 25-50 players
• Directing student tech crews (lighting and sound)
• Working with parent volunteers
• Overseeing set strike
• Overseeing and directing students in poster and program design
• Overseeing and directing students in prop creation and management
• Overseeing and directing students in backstage area management
