The Testing Technician performs quality control inspections and functional tests of ammunition during various stages of design and production. Inspects materials, parts, and products at various stages of production. Records observations and makes recommendations for improving processes. Demonstrates experience in various aspects of the job. Works proactively with limited supervision and direction of senior personnel in the functional area.

Requirements

  • Experience with ISO and ITAR requirements preferable.

  • Interprets technical drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to quickly learn department operations and company procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Valid State issued driver's license; ability to drive a company vehicle(s) for purposes of testing at the range, etc.
  • Candidates with prior military experience - particularly in a Combat Arms MOS - are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Meets all requirements of Level 1
  • Associates degree in STEM field, or a minimum of 2 years of experience conducting tests in a lab environment.
  • Meets all requirements of Level 2
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field, or a minimum of 4 years of experience conducting tests in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates under guidance of Test Technician level 2 or above.
  • Adheres to ISO requirements and company standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Strictly adheres to safe weapons handling at all times.
  • Strictly adhere to ammunition testing processes within True Velocity’s indoor testing range and while at various outdoor firing ranges.
  • Utilize measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, comparators, and electronic test equipment when testing ammunition.
  • Performs inspections, checks, and tests of products during various stages of the manufacturing process.
  • Compiles, interprets, and records observations of inspection processes.
  • Understands and executes tests and procedures.
  • Documents and uploads test result data in a timely fashion.
  • Performs cleaning, routine maintenance and inspection on weapons used to test ammunition.
  • Evaluates product specifications and examine them to specified requirements.
  • Accomplishes quality and organization goals by completing related tasks as needed.
  • Must be a strong team player and committed to team goals.
  • Must be fact / data driven in approach to problems and proposed solutions.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
  • Performs all functions listed in level 1.
  • Capable of operating as test lead to conduct testing functions on and off-site (Pressure and velocity, Function and Casualty, Dispersion, etc.).
  • Makes recommendations to improve inspection and test processes.
  • Uses checklists to verify that all necessary equipment is present when leaving the facility to conduct off-site testing.
  • Is also responsible for ensuring all equipment returns and is stored in proper locations.
  • Demonstrates leadership and accountability to complete tasks in timely manner.
  • May act as range safety officer as directed for scheduled tests.
  • Produces an “After action report” for each test conducted on the same day that test is conducted.
  • Identifies, communicates, and assists in resolving quality-related issues.
  • Performs all functions listed in level 2.
  • Capable of developing and documenting internal test procedures to ensure equipment is always in safe and correct operating condition to provide accurate / complete data.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks or potential sources of failure during testing procedures.
  • In depth technical knowledge of pressure, velocity, and propellant interactions.
  • Ability to use statistical tools for analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Ability to investigate customer issues and verify baseline data to support conclusions.
  • Ability to create and develop powerpoint / excel / Power BI reports and presentations to senior management.
  • Assists Engineers and management with the determination of daily planning, scheduling, and tasks to be completed.
  • Works with Engineers to develop standard processes, work instructions and checklists for the department.
  • Supports RCCA’s and CARs, as required.
  • Acts as the team lead if an Engineer is not present.
