About The Position

Geopacific Consultants Ltd. is seeking a Materials Testing (Field & Laboratory) Technician to join their team in Kelowna. This role involves conducting in-field materials testing and engineering reviews on construction sites, performing laboratory tests on soil, concrete, and asphalt, and preparing reports. The technician will collaborate with engineering staff, management, clients, and contractors, and will travel regularly throughout the Okanagan region. Flexible hours, including potential early mornings, late days, weekends, and night shifts, may be required depending on construction schedules. Occasional out-of-town overnight work may also be necessary. The role requires lifting and carrying equipment and samples weighing approximately 45-50 lbs.

Requirements

  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or another degree in a science-related field
  • Valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • A professional and proactive attitude when working with colleagues, clients, and contractors
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn
  • Energetic and dependable individual looking to gain hands-on field and lab experience in the geotechnical industry

Nice To Haves

  • CCIL Concrete, Asphalt and Aggregate Certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-field materials testing and engineering reviews on active construction sites
  • Perform in-lab soil, concrete and asphalt testing following standard procedures
  • Prepare accurate and concise reports using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Work closely with the company’s engineering staff, management team, clients, and contractors
  • Travel regularly throughout the Okanagan region to support project needs
  • Work flexible hours as required—some early mornings, late days, weekends and night shifts may be necessary depending on construction site schedules
  • Travel for Out-of-town overnight work may be required
  • Lift and carry equipment and samples weighing around 45-50 lbs as part of routine work
