About The Position

Whitman College, located in Walla Walla, is seeking a Testing Coordinator to report to the Director of Disability Access Services (DAS). This role is crucial for ensuring equitable access to academic resources for students with disabilities, supporting the college's commitment to access and inclusion. The Coordinator will use independent judgment and a strong understanding of disability accommodations to create a compliant learning environment. This is an on-campus position, not eligible for remote work, and is a 0.83 FTE (1726 annual hours) position, working 10 months during the academic year with 40-hour weeks.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, and verbal communication with superior attention to detail.
  • Ability to supervise a large group of student workers, in a variety of work assignments and complex payroll.
  • Experience with collecting and evaluating data, with the goal of assessing achievement of student and unit outcomes.
  • Ability to propose innovative approaches and creative solutions.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor while fostering a welcoming and pleasant environment in the Testing Center.
  • Familiarity with databases and technology, with a strong commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience with computer systems, including assistive and AI-driven technologies to support accessibility.
  • Experience supervising diverse students in an educational setting.
  • OR a combination of relevant education, training, and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Training or certification in first aid and behavioral crisis response.
  • Basic understanding of accessibility and disability access services in higher education.
  • Experience supervising diverse students at the college or university level.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of accommodated testing for students with disabilities, including exam scheduling, preparation of accessible documents and technology, proctoring (paper and digital exams), and ensuring a distraction-reduced environment.
  • Communicate testing details, expectations, and procedures to students and serve as a point-of-contact.
  • Track academic success and student engagement data to evaluate testing accommodations and inform improvements.
  • Oversee and coordinate the College’s note-taking services, including advertising, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating peer note-takers and reviewers.
  • Manage scheduling and payroll for note-taking staff and supervise student workers assisting with testing accommodations.
  • Identify improvements to the note-taker program, including evaluation and transition to AI-based and other note-taking software.
  • Facilitate the procurement of accessible documents and support the evaluation and troubleshooting of assistive and AI-based technologies.
  • Coordinate with Institutional Research to design and administer surveys for the evaluation of the peer note-taking program.
  • Maintain collaborative communication with faculty regarding exams to ensure a positive experience for students and faculty.
  • Educate faculty on testing accommodation procedures and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) for testing and note-taking accommodations.
  • Maintain awareness of and fulfill responsibilities related to Title IX, Clery, and other compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in a database.
  • Develop and revise policies and procedures for a supportive testing environment that assures academic integrity.
  • Manage the DAS Testing Center space, initiating safety and crisis response as needed, and reporting violations.
  • Contribute to additional projects and initiatives as needed, adapting to evolving priorities.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on accommodations best practices.
