About The Position

Electric Boat is seeking a Test Procedure Writer / Engineer to support a major construction and test program for the 827 Integrated Power Systems (IPS) at the IPS Compatibility Test Facility (CTF) in Philadelphia, PA. The IPS includes the electric drive propulsion plant and the core electrical power distribution system. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety, reliability, and quality of the system by translating complex engineering designs into actionable test procedures. The position offers end-to-end visibility of the system, opportunities for continuous learning in systems engineering and testing technologies, and collaboration with various engineering teams. While primarily documentation-focused, the role involves periodic travel to the test facility to observe procedures in action and sync with technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Software), or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of post-graduate engineering experience in a hardware, manufacturing, software, or highly regulated testing environment OR post-graduate military experience within the Submarine Force in a technical, electronics, or analytical rating (e.g., ET, FT, STS, ITS, or Nukes).
  • Demonstrated track record of writing high-consequence technical manuals, work instructions, command-statement test scripts or equivalent test documents.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance with the Dept of Defense.
  • Ability to interpret engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and CAD models.
  • Proficiency in standard documentation platforms (MS Word, Adobe, Visio).
  • Familiarity with technical databases or PLM software.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and maintain step-by-step technical test procedures using operation manuals and verification matrices mapped to engineering specifications.
  • Interpret Engineering Requirement Documents (ERDs) and Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) to identify testable conditions and define explicit acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Design, Electrical, and Software Engineers to gather necessary inputs and ensure accurate documentation of test environments.
  • Perform physical or digital 'test drives' and walkthroughs of draft procedures with testing technicians to validate accuracy, flow, and safety parameters.
  • Ensure all written procedures comply with industry regulations and internal quality management standards.
  • Manage document control, including submission, tracking, and archiving of documents, revision requests, and test records through the company's Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).
  • Develop formal correspondence to the government for document approval.
  • Interface with external and internal customers to ensure alignment.
  • Periodically travel for work.
