Test Development Engineer

Polar Semiconductor•Bloomington, MN
•$75,000 - $93,000

About The Position

The Test Development Engineer provides technical and sustaining engineering support for parametric testing. The role programs automated test equipment to determine whether wafer fabrication processes comply with specifications and recommends and implements equipment and test-program modifications that improve production efficiency, testing integrity, and yields for existing products. The engineer conducts statistical analyses, including design of experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC), to identify areas and potential root causes of yield loss and improve quality. The position works with product and process engineering personnel to ensure parametric test specifications and results are accurate. The role supports early process development through production, including production training, documentation, productivity and accuracy enhancements, yield troubleshooting, and communicating findings from statistical analysis. It also develops code to troubleshoot and verify testers, supports maintenance effectiveness, and maintains automated test equipment standards and Gauge R&R.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics, fabrication processes, and characterization techniques.
  • Proficiency programming in C in a Linux or Windows environment.
  • Experience using data-handling tools such as Excel, JMP, or MATLAB.
  • Problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or another microelectronics-related engineering field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using an automatic parametric test or reliability test system.
  • Semiconductor CAD tool experience.
  • Master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Review testing specifications and compare them with hardware capabilities.
  • Review device specifications for testability.
  • Code test programs to specifications, primarily using C and other computer programming languages.
  • Check out and debug test programs and hardware.
  • Check out and debug devices using test-wares, applying device knowledge to understand interactions and improve testing.
  • Support early process development and adjust testing as the process moves into production.
  • Support production through training, documentation, productivity and accuracy enhancements, and yield troubleshooting.
  • Use statistical software tools to trace failures to a fabrication processing area and communicate findings.
  • Write code to improve troubleshooting and verification of testers, and help the maintenance organization work more effectively.
  • Maintain standards and Gauge R&R for automated test equipment.
  • Conduct statistical analysis, including DOE and SPC, to investigate yield loss and improve quality.
  • Work with product and process engineering personnel to ensure parametric test specifications and results are accurate.
