Test and Qualification Technician
About The Position
Corning is seeking a Test and Qualification Technician I to support the verification, qualification, and reliability testing of optical telecommunications products in a laboratory environment. In this hands-on role, you will operate test systems, collect and document data, and assist engineers in ensuring that fiber optic products meet performance and quality requirements. The Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with optical test and measurement equipment
- Hands-on experience with optical fiber fusion splicing
- Experience with quality control testing
- Experience with data analysis
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Nice To Haves
- Basic understanding of optical test equipment
- Basic understanding of fiber optic theory and hardware
- Prior experience in electronics and/or fiber optics
- Experience in a laboratory environment
Responsibilities
- Set up and verify fiber optic test systems; configure product samples for environmental and mechanical testing
- Perform optical measurements using manual and automated test systems; program and operate environmental chambers and test equipment
- Document test results, draft test reports, and track testing progress in accordance with documented procedures
- Conduct basic data analysis and assist in failure mode analysis
- Assist with equipment calibration and construction of jigs and fixtures under direction of lab engineers
