Assembly and Test Technician

Aigen•Redmond, WA
•$70,000 - $90,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Assembly and Test Technician supports production and testing of Aigen’s solar-powered autonomous agricultural robots. The role combines production planning and execution with laboratory and field testing, and includes supporting customers in operating their Element robot fleets. Work includes assisting engineers with prototypes, planning production layouts, and assembling robots and their electro-mechanical components, PCBs, and sensors. Testing covers robot reliability and performance, including thermal, vibration, endurance, ingress protection, system operation, and weeding efficacy. Testing begins in the lab and also takes place at local and out-of-state farms. Findings inform design updates and later production runs. The position is full-time and on-site in Redmond, Washington, Monday through Friday, roughly 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional travel (10%) to field sites.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with electrical integration, wire harnessing, and mechanical assembly, or equivalent technical training.
  • Production assembly experience, including building to drawings and work instructions and evaluating production plans.
  • Experience running tests and collecting data, with familiarity using basic instrumentation such as multimeters, thermocouples, and data loggers.
  • Comfort with spreadsheets and basic data evaluation, including plotting, identifying outliers, and summarizing results.
  • Proficiency with torque tools, nut runners, crimpers, and standard hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and harness drawings.
  • Basic PC skills, including data entry.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in field conditions and travel to field sites.
  • Ability to work on one's feet for up to 4 hours at a time and lift 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license for testing and field travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in scientific or engineering data evaluation, such as lab or test technician work, quality assurance, or coursework in physics, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with environmental test equipment, such as thermal chambers, vibration tables, or ingress protection rigs.
  • Experience planning production, writing work instructions, or working in a manufacturing resource planning (MRP) or inventory system.
  • Experience with robotics, electric vehicles, battery systems, solar, or off-highway equipment.
  • Python or similar scripting experience for test automation or data analysis.
  • Farm or field equipment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build wire harnesses and perform electrical integration, including crimping, connector assembly, cable routing and labeling, continuity checks, and insulation checks.
  • Assemble mechanical subassemblies and complete robots to drawings and work instructions using hand, torque, and automated tools.
  • Build prototype robots and apply lessons learned to production builds.
  • Help write production plans, including build sequence, work instructions, fixtures and tooling, station layout, and throughput estimates.
  • Set up the production line and build subassemblies to plan; flag problems in drawings, bills of materials, and processes before they reach the floor.
  • Manage kitting and inventory by receiving and counting parts, preparing build kits, and keeping stock levels and locations current.
  • Run hardware reliability tests, including thermal, vibration, endurance, and ingress protection tests, as well as system and software tests on complete robots.
  • Set up test fixtures and instrumentation, log data, review results for anomalies, and summarize findings for engineers.
  • Support field operations by deploying, servicing, and troubleshooting robots at grower sites and helping prototype next-generation updates.
  • Keep build and test records current through data entry in inventory, build, and test tracking tools.
