About The Position

Corning is seeking a Test and Qualification Engineer to design, build, and automate optical test systems that support the performance and qualification of fiber optic products. In this role, you will develop and validate test methodologies, ensure measurement integrity, and partner with development and product teams to drive technical excellence in Corning Optical Communications compliance and industry standards. Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics — or equivalent experience
Experience in a laboratory environment
Hands-on experience with optical test equipment, including lasers, optical switches, and power meters
Strong knowledge of optical metrology
Demonstrated programming skills; LabVIEW preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

Master's degree with emphasis in optics or photonics
Familiarity with relevant industry standards including Telcordia, ISO, and IEC
Industry experience with fiber optics or other telecom products
Experience compiling and analyzing large data sets using statistical methods
Experience coaching or training technicians in a lab setting

Responsibilities

Design, build, and automate optical test systems; define measurement uncertainty, accuracy, and repeatability for optical equipment
Develop and verify test methodologies, calibration procedures, and software for automated test systems
Plan and execute product test programs; perform failure mode analysis and troubleshoot optical measurement systems
Document, verify, and approve test results, data analysis, and test reports in alignment with Telcordia, ISO, IEC, and customer requirements
Identify technical objectives, lead independent experiments, and coach and train technicians and team members
