About The Position

Merchants Insurance Group, a leading Property and Casualty Insurer in the Northeast, is seeking an experienced Territory Manager to join their Western Strategic Business Center (WSBC) Regional Operations team. This remote position reports to the WSBC Regional office in Buffalo, New York. The Territory Manager will be responsible for managing the growth and profitability of an assigned territory in Central/Eastern New York. This involves developing and executing individual agency business plans to support mutual goals and adding value to agency partners.

Requirements

• College degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5 plus years’ experience in the P&C industry with an agency management orientation.
• Sales and marketing background with ability to promote our brand.
• The ability to travel approximately 75% of work week, mostly day travel and occasional overnight travel within territory.
• Travel to home office in Buffalo to attend required meetings and events, as needed.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Nice To Haves

• Commercial Lines Underwriting experience highly desirable.
• CPCU and other industry designations are a plus.
• Previous Agency relationships within the local insurance industry are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Cultivating solid relationships with Agents while working towards achieving the most optimal outcomes for Merchants and our policyholders.
• Achieve direct written premium goals for assigned territory by leveraging key agency relationships and Merchants value added services.
• Manage and develop agency plant in assigned territory by completing a minimum number of monthly agency calls, distributing timely call reports and addressing all agency needs as directed by the Regional Vice President.
• Provide market intelligence to assist Sales and Product Development with rate revisions, new product development, and competitive selling advantages.
