About The Position

The role maintains, repairs, and replaces terminal machinery and equipment, uses computers and software to process paperwork and communicate with the main office, and supports cement inventory and distribution. It involves unloading cement from railcars, storing it, and loading it into trucks; processing invoices, bills of lading, CODs, railcar orders and tracking, weight tickets, load-out tickets, and terminal supply orders; and coordinating with railroads, truck drivers, customers, the order center, sales, and vendors to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery. The operator positions and blocks vehicles and railcars using a track mobile and brakes; positions spouts, chutes, and conveyors; operates slide gates, air valves, conveyors, pneumatic conveyors, elevators, and dampers; and monitors pressure gauges and adjusts valves to maintain pumping pressure. Duties include scraping residual cement from railcars with a 16-foot T-handled pole, collecting cement samples, tracking inventory, and lifting vibrators into and out of train-car pockets, which requires lifting, crawling, and bending. The operator records car identification, material weight and volume, and the number of cars dumped or filled. The role also includes maintaining and repairing terminal equipment such as valves, augers, air compressors, vibrators, dust collectors, motor wrenches, boot lifts, and hydraulic cylinders; welding and using cutting torches; operating forklifts, track mobiles, and other mobile equipment; diagnosing machinery problems and recommending solutions; and providing coverage at other terminals when operators or managers are on vacation or sick leave. General housekeeping and grounds maintenance are required. The employee is expected to maintain a safe working environment, follow safety policies and company policies, keep the assigned area clean, ensure work quality, support continuous improvement, promote best practices, manage time well, and troubleshoot and analyze root causes of failures.
