About The Position

The Statistics Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications to fill multiple full-time, academic year, tenure track positions in Statistics and/or Data Science, with appointment beginning approximately August 12, 2027. The successful candidate will join Cal Poly’s Statistics Department and contribute to teaching, scholarship, and service while also engaging in cross-disciplinary collaborations. Candidates must be committed to high-quality undergraduate and graduate education and to supporting our BS Statistics, BS Data Science and MS Statistics programs. Candidates must have the ability to teach a range of statistics courses, including service courses, upper-division electives, and graduate-level courses, and to mentor graduate students by advising MS theses. The department is especially interested in candidates specializing in data science but will consider candidates with expertise in any area of statistics. As scholars, faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda with externally validated outcomes such as peer-reviewed publications, grants, conference presentations, or other externally reviewed outputs. As colleagues, faculty are encouraged to contribute service at all levels of the University, including department, college, and university levels, and to contribute professional service. The typical teaching assignment is seven 3-unit semester courses per year on a 4–3 load, with opportunities for adjustments based on research mentoring, supervision of MS theses, or external funding. Teaching responsibilities will include major courses at lower-division, upper-division, and graduate level as well as statistics service courses for non-majors with the possibility of developing new courses in the candidate’s area of specialty. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual selected. If appointed at the Assistant Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $97,788 - $107,628. If appointed at the Associate Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $112,500 - $118,524.
