The Department of Informatics and Intelligent Systems (IIS) in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for multiple tenure-line faculty positions in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The appointments will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank and will begin in July of 2027 at the University Park campus in State College, Pennsylvania. Remote appointments are not permitted for these hires. We seek to build on the strengths of the department in AI, including causal inference, computer vision, human-centered and socially responsible AI, knowledge representation, machine learning, natural language processing, multi-agent systems, AI ethics, and/or transformative AI applications that tackle major scientific and/or societal challenges. We seek scholars who complement our existing strengths, and bring expertise in core areas of AI, or who bridge fundamental research in AI with transformative applications in the sciences, healthcare, security, critical infrastructure, public policy, the humanities, and/or social sciences. The department is home to Penn State’s undergraduate B.S. degree in Artificial Intelligence Methods and Applications (AIMA) and offers the Applied Data Sciences Option of the tri-college B.S. degree in Data Sciences. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct cutting-edge research, supervise and mentor graduate students, secure external funding to support research activities, engage in service activities at the college and university levels, and collaborate with faculty across the university and industry partners.
