About The Position

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Tenant Relations Worker will be responsible for providing support to clients regarding their housing and tenancy relationships. They will complete all documentation required for move-in (i.e., Tenancy Agreements, ODSP Pay Direct Forms, and Key Agreement Forms) and will also support financial budgeting for tenants (monthly calculations, annual income reviews, directives from government ministries, and market rent notices).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Social Services, Health Services, or equivalent
  • 1+ years’ experience providing housing support to individuals with mental health challenges
  • Proficiency in the Residential Tenancies Act and Landlord/Tenant Board legislation
  • Understanding of the Housing First philosophy
  • Understanding of homelessness and at risk of homelessness
  • Excellent time management, prioritization abilities , and communication
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and InSITE
  • A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license and a vehicle with adequate insurance coverage is required
  • Valid certification in CPI, CPR, First Aid, and Assist is mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Meet with new tenants and complete all necessary documentation for move-in (Tenancy Agreements, ODSP Pay Direct Forms, etc.)
  • Assist with developing landlord and tenant relationships which may include mediation during conflicts
  • Refer to additional support services if required (Addiction, Trauma, Hoarding, etc.) to maintain a healthy and safe living environment
  • Encourage neighborhood integration to promote community safety and belonging
  • Track arrears and assist tenants in developing re-payment plans
  • Provide risk assessments and develop potential contingency plans
  • Support move out transition as required
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a high functioning team to carry out mental health recovery and tenancy support
  • Understand and be able to integrate a philosophy of client-centered care into daily responsibilities
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIP’s Mission and Values
  • Ensure appropriate records are kept and make sure that statistical information is maintained as per agency standards
  • Adhere to agency Health & Safety Program and the Client Safety Framework in the promotion of client safety
  • Perform additional duties as required/delegated by Management
  • Record Notices of Admission (NOA) and Notices of Vacancy (NOV) in SHIP’s internal database and ensure that these notices are provided to all appropriate departments and staff
  • Data entry into the Rent Administration System (Yardi), including, but not limited to rent, parking, debits, relevant tenant information such as banking information
  • Keeps abreast of MOHLTC procedural requirements
  • Implement/investigate legislative and court rules relating to a case; and keeping abreast of current trends and work collaboratively with management and legal representatives to: ensure appropriate resolutions are met; create policy/procedure, to build partner relationships
  • Communicates all information pertaining to tenants and LTB processes to the Tenant Relations Manager and other team members as needed
  • Acts as liaison with landlords, property managers and superintendents to negotiate and resolve tenant issues
  • Follow up with N4 Eviction Notices if required
  • Attends Landlord Tenant Board hearings as required
