About The Position

The Turpin Outdoor Education Center is seeking a reliable, safety-focused Temporary Park Worker III to serve as a Firearm Range Safety Officer (RSO). The role oversees weekly public open shoot hours, maintains strict range safety standards, supervises shooting-line activities, and provides customer service to facility visitors and target shooters of all experience levels.

The required schedule is every Saturday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, for at least six hours per week. Additional hours may be available based on the employee’s availability, schedule, and facility needs.

Requirements

• At least three months of experience working in a recreational area, scenic attraction, hospitality, historical, retail or customer service setting, agricultural setting, or related coursework or training.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Current NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) certification, or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
• Must be available every Saturday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary Range Safety Officer on duty.
• Conduct mandatory safety briefings, monitor active shooting lanes, enforce range safety protocols, and immediately address unsafe behavior.
• Greet patrons and answer questions about facility policies and firearm regulations.
• Help foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all shooters.
• Maintain cleanliness on the shooting line.
• Assist with opening and closing duties and support operational needs as requested.
