About The Position

Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is looking for enthusiastic candidates that are skilled in working with all ages and abilities in a fitness or water exercise environment. As a group instructor, you will represent the City in a capacity to demonstrate and verbally instruct effective aerobic, strengthening, flexibility and balance exercise workout techniques. You will need to set up, monitor class equipment, ensure its return is in serviceable condition, communicate and work well with all program participants, other staff, and any individuals contacted in the course of work. Safety standards and facility policies are to be met at all times.

Requirements

  • Be at lest 18 years of age.
  • Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Respond quickly and effectively in an emergency situation.
  • Able to maintain a clam and professional demeanor at all times, including emergencies.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, adhere to dress code and provide excellent customer service.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with the public, program participant and other City employees.
  • Interact well with a diverse group of program participants
  • Read, write and follow instructions.
  • Monitor compliance policies and procedures.
  • Maintain certifications through continuing education classes and workshops.
  • This position is subject to successful completion of a pre-employment reference check, and a basic criminal background check.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid CPR, First Aid, and AED cards within one month of hire.
  • Must have possession of, or ability to obtain, a National group or water exercise certification (ACE, AEA, AFAA, NETA, or other specialty certification) within six months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with people with special needs is desirable.
