About The Position

Be a part of Thurston County's agricultural heritage and a great community event - come work at the Fair! Temporary fair workers perform a multitude of tasks to ensure all fair goers have a fun time at a clean and safe event. Dates of employment are variable depending on the position. The Administrative and Facilities Operations staff will begin as close to June 15 as possible and end the second week of August. The Service Operations opportunities will begin the last week of July and conclude on the final day of Fair. The Thurston County Fair runs Thursday July 30, 2026 – Sunday August 2, 2026. We have multiple openings and look forward to hearing from you! Service Operations: Custodial tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping, table washing, and trash pick-up. Customer Service tasks including, but not limited to, welcoming the public, collecting tickets, and monitoring parking. Service Operations employment will begin the last week of July and end the final day of the fair. Administrative Operations: Tasks to include, but not limited to, data entry, operating cash register, running computer reports, welcoming the public, answering phones, organizing files, and other clerical items as needed. Administrative Operations employment will being mid- June and ends the second week of August. Facilities Operations: Tasks to include, but not limited to, repairing water leaks, landscaping, basic equipment repair, tables, chairs and tent set-ups, moving manure, and sanitizing facilities and equipment. Experience with the use of basic hand and power tools (hammers, impact drills, etc), basic grounds equipment (lawn mower, weed eater, blower, etc), and some knowledge of electricity (i.e. the difference between 120/240 power) are required for this work. Facilities Operations employment begins mid-June and ends the second week of August.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow directions and quickly adapt to changing conditions and complex circumstances.
  • Ability to analyze problems and act on solutions with a high degree of confidence.
  • Experience with the use of basic hand and power tools (hammers, impact drills, etc).
  • Experience with basic grounds equipment (lawn mower, weed eater, blower, etc).
  • Some knowledge of electricity (i.e. the difference between 120/240 power).

Responsibilities

  • Perform custodial tasks including sweeping, table washing, and trash pick-up.
  • Provide customer service, including welcoming the public, collecting tickets, and monitoring parking.
  • Perform data entry, operate cash registers, and run computer reports.
  • Answer phones and organize files.
  • Repair water leaks, perform landscaping, and basic equipment repair.
  • Set up tables, chairs, and tents.
  • Move manure and sanitize facilities and equipment.
