About The Position

The Department of Political Science at Fresno State is seeking qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses. The department offers undergraduate majors and graduate degrees in public administration. The faculty is known for its commitment to teaching, research, and public service. The department seeks candidates to teach courses such as Introduction to American Government and Institutions, including California government, and other courses as needed like Modern Politics, Public Policy, California Government, or Comparative Politics. Temporary faculty members are responsible for adhering to university policies, preparing and delivering lectures, holding office hours, assigning and grading homework, quizzes, projects, and exams. All classes must be offered as scheduled and in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid). Appointments are conditional upon budget and enrollment considerations and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement's order of assignment provisions. California State University, Fresno does not sponsor Temporary Faculty for work visas.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Political Science with an emphasis in American Politics (or a closely related field) from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience teaching American Government or related college courses at the collegiate level.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, which may be exhibited through prior teaching experiences and teaching evaluations, or other evidence.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience teaching American Government at the collegiate level in California.
  • Ph.D. in Political Science.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams.
  • Ensuring all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e. asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).
  • Adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.

Benefits

  • Commensurate compensation by qualifications and experience within salary range placement.
  • Salary ranges established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers).
  • The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree is $5,507-6,677 per a month when teaching full time (15 WTUs).
  • Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per an academic term.
