About The Position

Boston College is seeking an experienced Temporary Copy Editor for the TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center. This part-time, on-site position will involve editing the PIRLS 2026 Encyclopedia chapters, which provide an overview of national contexts for learning to read in participating countries. The chapters are authored by representatives from each country. The copy editor will work with the Associate Research Director, Context Questionnaires and Reporting, and other staff to ensure accuracy, clarity, style, and organization while respecting the author's voice. The role requires working quickly and accurately under deadlines and familiarity with the publication production process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in copy editing.
  • Experience editing copy for accuracy, clarity, style, and organization.
  • Ability to synthesize material from a variety of written and oral sources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the use of the Tracking Changes feature.
  • Must work well under pressure and conform to deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Edit PIRLS 2026 Encyclopedia chapters for accuracy, clarity, style, and organization.

Benefits

  • Pay Range: $35 – $40 per hour, commensurate with experience.
