About The Position

The University of New Mexico (UNM) Department of English anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate-level classes in various subjects for the Fall 2026 semester. Anticipated courses include Composition I, Composition I: Stretch I, Composition II, and Technical and Professional Communication. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of their assigned classes, including meeting times, content delivery, assignment development, grading, grade reporting, and student learning assessment. Positions are contingent upon semester-specific needs determined by student enrollment, course offerings, and graduation requirements. Openings may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the course drop/add deadline. Selected candidates will report to the Chair, Dr. Anita Obermeier.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying, OR Master’s degree or higher in a discipline related to but other than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years professional experience in English or subfield.
  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
