The Telephonic Nurse Practitioner is a remote, part-time role in Optum’s Telehealth Urgent Care program. The National On Call advanced practice clinician (APC) provides telephonic and, when clinically appropriate, video care and direction to patients, caregivers, and facility staff. The program provides 24/7 coverage, including holidays, and the role includes cross-covering multiple markets and teams. Work must be performed in a secure location to protect patient privacy. The APC delivers acute care and manages medical, behavioral, chronic, and acute conditions in collaboration with physicians or specialty providers. The role includes comprehensive assessments, compliant and complete documentation, evidence-based care, care coordination across settings, monitoring and adjusting care plans, reviewing orders and interventions, discussing advanced care plans, and supporting cost-effective care. The APC also communicates with patients, families, facilities, providers, and internal teams; participates in quality initiatives and required training; and works independently while meeting scheduling and attendance expectations. The position is advertised as part time and 20 hours, but its scheduling section also states a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Coverage expectations include varied weekday, weeknight, weekend, and holiday shifts; every-other-weekend coverage; and holiday coverage on a rotation basis. The role is remote from anywhere in the United States, subject to the company’s telecommuter policy. Compensation is generally $109,500–$164,000, with total cash compensation including base pay and bonus and depending on factors such as location, education, and work experience. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered to external candidates.
