The Telemetry Monitor Technician (TMT) monitors, recognizes, and reports cardiac arrhythmias to the RN caring for each patient. The role also remotely observes assigned patients using continuous tele-visual monitoring to support patient safety, including patients at risk for falls, elopement, or other safety concerns identified by nursing staff. The technician performs related patient-monitoring and equipment-maintenance duties in the central station and on patient-care units. The position requires reading and interpreting cardiac rhythms, documenting rhythms and patient behaviors or interventions, and delivering rhythm strips and other documentation to patient-care units as needed. The technician coordinates with nursing leadership on the use of telemetry and visual-monitoring resources and handles monitoring equipment and video cameras before and after use. The role also includes maintaining confidentiality, working safely, supporting quality care responsive to patients’ age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs, and completing other duties assigned by the hiring manager or supervisor. This is a full-time position on a rotating shift. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, as is previous experience reading monitors or EKGs. The technician must complete a basic arrhythmia class and pass it within the first 30 days of employment, and must pass an arrhythmia competency test during the annual CMT Blitz education.
