About The Position

The Telecommunicator triages calls received in the Communication Center and accurately documents required information. The role provides appropriate and timely Pre-Arrival Instructions to customers who need them and works closely with the EMD/Dispatcher to ensure transportation requests are handled efficiently.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
• Meet at least one experience or training requirement: 1 year of experience in a medical setting emphasizing incoming multi-line phones, call triage, patient intake, or appointment scheduling; or 2 years of customer service experience emphasizing multi-line phones in a call center environment; or completion of the Emergency Telecommunicator (ETC) Course and Certification through the International Academy of Emergency Dispatchers (IAED).
• Ability to multitask, problem solve, and make effective decisions under pressure.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, high-intensity team environment.
• Ability to work effectively with other hospitals' staff, public service agencies, peers, co-workers, and the general public.
• Current EMD certification through Medical Priority Dispatch, or ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Medical terminology coursework or equivalent.
