About The Position

The City of Georgetown is currently accepting applications for Telecommunicator. This role involves receiving information via radio and telephone and transmitting it to public safety agencies in order of importance during assigned shifts. The position requires the ability to operate computer-aided dispatch basic functions, conduct checks on operator's licenses, registrations, and wanted persons, and prepare and maintain files. The Telecommunicator will also be responsible for calling wrecker services as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school, or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Ability to attend and complete telecommunication training for certifications required by KRS laws within 6 months of employment.
  • Basic knowledge of FCC rules and regulations.
  • General understanding of public safety emergency services operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the county, including the location of streets and roads, major buildings, etc.
  • Skill in the use of radios/telephones, and computers.
  • Basic map reading skills and comprehension.
  • Ability to remain calm during emergency situations for long periods of time.
  • Ability to prioritize calls.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and execute effective courses of action.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate computer terminal.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, other public safety departments/agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to perform multi-tasking functions.
  • Valid Kentucky driver's license required.
  • Must attend Telecommunications Academy to obtain certifications per KRS during required time period following employment.
  • Must have ability to complete required training, including required annual certifications.
  • Must be able to work irregular hours, nights/weekends/holidays etc.
