About The Position

Join a unique telecommunications department that combines Fire/EMS, police, aviation, and more! We welcome new recruits and lateral DOCJT certified professionals. Salary for lateral candidates is based on years of experience. CLASS SUMMARY: Responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls as well as monitoring various airport safety and security systems. Through interpretation of information received, responsible for determining appropriate allocation of resources and dispatching police, fire, operations and maintenance units as appropriate. Position requires multitasking in a fast-paced airport environment and the ability to maintain situational awareness at all times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Pass Department of Criminal Justice Basic Telecommunications Course (new recruits)
  • Maintain LINK/NCIC certifications
  • Maintain Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification
  • Maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance
  • Obtain and maintain position appropriate NIMS and emergency training
  • Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintaining confidentiality, privacy and security of protected information

  • Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, pushing, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
  • Current Telecommunicators wishing to move laterally will need to provide proof of DOCJT Certificate and ID Number.

Responsibilities

  • Receives emergency (911) and non-emergency calls via phone and dispatches appropriate resources as required.
  • Uses various systems, including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), to maintain situational awareness during responses.
  • Takes direction from Incident Commander (IC), Person In Charge (PIC) or Airport Duty Manager (ADM) during large scale events and coordinates with internal and external airport stakeholders as required.
  • Monitors and sends information via teletype over the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Law Information Network of Kentucky (LINK).
  • Utilizes Airport Mass Notification System to disseminate emergency and non-emergency information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitors access into secure areas utilizing access control system and CCTV on doors.
  • Monitors airport fire alarm systems.
  • Accepts airport service requests and assigns work orders as needed.
  • Dispatches airport maintenance personnel for immediate maintenance needs.
  • Maintains awareness of airport system outages (power, conveyances, airport train) and coordinates with appropriate KCAB department for repair.
  • Actively monitors airport operational activities and maintains situational awareness of airfield status and aircraft arrivals/departures.
  • Monitors weather conditions and disseminates information as required via various communication systems.
  • Receives calls from airport stakeholders during snow events and disseminates information to KCAB departments as required.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
