About The Position

VTG is seeking a Telecommunications Technician 3 to support Navy efforts in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This role involves the installation, repair, and replacement of Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) cabling, as well as premise cabling, to ensure compliance with current standards, codes, and instructions. The technician will conduct site surveys, assist in developing project requirements and designs, and create Statements of Work (SOW) and Performance Work Statements (PWS) for Layer 1 projects. Responsibilities include developing engineering installation design plans, cost estimates, and calculating man-hours. The technician will also provide Bills of Materials (BOM), identify Government Furnished Material (GFM) and Government Furnished Tools (GFT), and provide post-repair "redlined" Installation Design Plans (IDP's). Deliverables include completed copper and fiber test results. The work must comply with the most current ANSI/EIA/TIA Standards, federal and local safety regulations, OSHA, National Fire and Safety Code, and National Electric Code requirements. The technician will also provide data from building surveys to establish requirements for corrective maintenance and ensure all work adheres to applicable standards, codes, and instructions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of documented experience in installation/maintenance of telecommunications industry standards-based cabling distribution systems.
  • Must be familiar with and able to reference current ANSI/TIA/EIA Standards.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Must be willing to relocate long term to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam area.

  • Other Cabling Industry certifications or Industry training classes/seminars.
  • BICSI Certification (Installer or Technician), preferred.
  • BICSI RCDD Certification, preferred.
  • Active Top Secret clearance, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide data from ISP/OSP surveys to establish requirements for corrective maintenance of the information technology infrastructure based on current EIA/TIA standards.
  • Assist the engineering department in developing and designing local projects, including the Master Plan budgetary matrix.
  • Conduct surveys and provide all required data to establish requirements for correctional maintenance of the base infrastructure.
  • Provide data including locations of new outlets and redlined Installation Design Plans (IDP’s) for premise cabling repairs.
  • Attend meetings and site surveys as directed.
  • Develop Statement of Works (SOW)/Performance Work Statements (PWS) for ISP/OSP layer 1 projects.
  • Develop engineering installation design plans and cost estimates, including calculating man-hours for assigned projects.
  • Provide Bill of Materials (BOM) and identify the ability to facilitate the purchase of Government Furnished Material (GFM) and Government Furnished Tools (GFT).
  • Provide general support in operations, repair, and maintenance functions as directed by the customer.
  • Provide post-repair “redlined” Installation Design Plans for buildings associated with required tasks.
  • Provide completed, legible deliverable documents including copper and fiber test results of all installed infrastructure.
  • Provide data from building surveys that assist in establishing requirements for corrective maintenance of the base infrastructure based on standards.
  • Provide digital “soft copy” test results in accordance with the standards, codes and instructions.
