About The Position

Greenwood County Emergency Communications is hiring Telecommunications Officers to serve as the first point of contact during emergencies. The role supports public safety by receiving calls, dispatching responders, coordinating information among agencies, and documenting incidents. Officers must remain focused, communicate clearly, and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations. The position requires the ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts. Employees must successfully complete South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) E-911 training and certification requirements and obtain NCIC certification as a condition of continued employment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Strong communication, listening, and multitasking skills.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during stressful situations.
Attention to detail and ability to accurately enter and maintain information.
Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts.
Successfully complete SCCJA E-911 training and certification requirements as a condition of continued employment.
Obtain NCIC certification as a condition of continued employment.

Responsibilities

Answer and process emergency 911 and non-emergency calls.
Dispatch law enforcement and emergency response personnel to incidents.
Provide emergency medical instructions, including CPR and first aid guidance, when necessary.
Monitor radio communications and coordinate information between emergency response agencies.
Accurately document calls, incidents, and important information using computer-aided dispatch systems.
Prioritize multiple calls and incidents while remaining calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
Maintain accurate records and information in local, state, and federal databases.
