About The Position

Performs straight forward network architecture assignments under moderate direction. Uses knowledge to support the planning, researching, evaluating, designing, and developing network systems. Participates in configuration, installation, and performance analysis of networks. This position is centered around IP Network Technology and will be supporting/engineering in the Operational Technology networks for Transmission, Distribution environments. Vendor technologies include Cisco, and vendor toolsets include Cisco SDWan Manager and SolarWinds. The role involves design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of AEP's intermediate and enterprise telecommunication networks and systems, while adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations. It also includes preparing cost estimates, documenting project work, analyzing network performance, troubleshooting technical problems, applying economic analysis techniques, and understanding AEP networks and organizational structure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study OR associate’s degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience OR HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.
  • Valid Driver's License is Required.
  • Possess intermediate level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.
  • Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity.
  • Exhibit understanding for pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems and business processes.
  • Exhibit ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supports/engineers Operational Technology networks.
  • Supports/engineers for Transmission, Distribution environments.
  • Participates in design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of AEP's intermediate and enterprise telecommunication networks and systems.
  • Follows policies, practices, procedures, standards, and company rules relative to assignments.
  • Complies with regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
  • Prepares cost estimates for engineering assignments using established guidelines.
  • Performs documentation of project work using established guidelines.
  • Performs network assignments.
  • Analyzes network performance, troubleshoots when necessary, and provides resolutions to technical problems.
  • Follows standard workflow for engineering projects.
  • Applies economic analysis techniques and adheres to budgeting and approval processes in project development.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of AEP networks, components, and facilities to enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.
  • Learns AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of one's organizational unit.
  • Collaborates with others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to complete routine activities.
  • Provides cross-training to other employees as assigned.
  • Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
