About The Position

The Teen Staff - Kitchen role at the East Palo Alto Clubhouse is responsible for establishing positive relationships with club members, helping them develop problem-solving skills, and supporting their academic success. As a staff member, you will communicate information about upcoming events and activities, track program and membership data for reports, and complete administrative tasks as assigned by the Clubhouse Leader/Staff. This position is located at the East Palo Alto Clubhouse and reports to the assigned Department Leader.

Requirements

• A minimum GPA of 2.5 for the duration of the academic year while employed with BGCP
• Attend all professional development classes
• Attend all Teen Staff training
• Work no more than the hours outlined on your work permit. If put on academic probation, teen staff are only allowed to work a max of 5 hours a week until they reach a GPA of 2.0
• Punctuality - communicate absences or tardiness
• Professionalism - keep cell phone use to a minimum (emergencies and breaks)
• Positive - willing to take direction from BGCP staff, chefs, and cooks
• Responsible - must be aware of your surroundings.
• Safety - The kitchen can be very dangerous (fire, knives, etc.). No dangling jewelry or rings. Must wear non-absorbent clothing (no sweats, sweatshirts, pajamas, etc.). Must wear slip-resistant shoes (no open toed shoes, sandals, slippers, crocs with holes). Long hair must be tied back or in a hat. Hairnets will be provided if necessary.
• Energetic - willing to work in a hot, fast-paced environment
• Flexibility - must be able to work as part of a team with various tasks (dishwashing, cleaning of kitchen and kitchen equipment, organization of food and equipment, basic knife work and food preparation, serving and plating food, breaking down and removing cardboard.)
• Strong written/verbal communication-skills.

Responsibilities

• Guide memorable tour for donors, families and large groups as needed
• Prepare/heat up meals
• Track meals during dinner distribution per our food program guidelines
• Clean up after all snack and dinner distribution
• Maintain cleanliness of the clubhouse
• Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
• Support with facilitation of Culinary classes

• Sick Time: Part-time employees accrue sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 20 hours worked, and may use up to 40 hours per year
