About The Position

The Oak Park Public Library is seeking enthusiastic, part-time, temporary interns to join their Creative Studio team for Summer 2026. This position is designed to help teens learn more about libraries through work in the Creative Studio, developing a working knowledge of the library and its services. The intern will perform various assigned duties for the library's operation and assist where needed. No previous training or special knowledge of library procedures is required, but applicants must have completed the 2026 Oak Park Public Library Job Readiness Program.

Requirements

Must have completed the 2026 Oak Park Public Library Job Readiness Program
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions
Ability to work individually or as a team member
Ability to pay attention to detail
Ability to engage with patrons of all ages and forward questions to the appropriate staff
Experience using a range of technology, including but not limited to Windows PCs, Macs, mobile devices, social media, and common desktop applications
Experience with any of the following: creative crafting, digital design applications, troubleshooting common issues on smartphones and other mobile devices
Interest in developing new skills related to equipment in the Creative Studio, such as 3D printers, cutting plotters, and digital design applications like Canva
Possess a positive attitude towards staff, patrons, and public service work
Must be punctual and arrive on time when scheduled
Must be available to work at least 4 Sundays throughout the length of the internship

Responsibilities

Adheres to library policies, including employment and “A Library for Everyone” policies
Performs duties as assigned by supervisors or other designated staff members in an assigned work area
Assists in various library service areas as needed
Assists patrons with questions related to creative projects during Open Hours in the Creative Studio Makery
Provides direct patron assistance at various Creative Studio stations
Helps patrons with basic technology questions during Tech Help Drop-In sessions
