Teen Library Intern (Paid) - Materials Handling
About The Position
The Oak Park Public Library seeks enthusiastic, part-time, temporary interns to join our Materials Handling team for Summer 2026! The Teen Library Intern is a temporary, part-time position designed to help teens learn more about libraries through work in Materials Handling. Teens will develop a working knowledge of the library, care of library materials, and library services. The intern will perform various duties as assigned for the library's operation and assist where needed. No previous training or special knowledge of library procedures is required. However, applicants must have completed the 2026 Oak Park Public Library Job Readiness Program.
Requirements
- Must have completed the 2026 Oak Park Public Library Job Readiness Program
- Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions
- Ability to work individually or as a team member
- Ability to pay attention to detail
- Ability to engage with patrons of all ages and forward questions to the appropriate staff
- Ability to navigate desktop computer basics
- Possess a positive attitude towards staff, patrons, and public service work
- Must be punctual and arrive on time when scheduled
Responsibilities
- Adheres to library policies, including employment and “A Library for Everyone” policies
- Sorts and shelves returned materials
- Assists with daily deliveries
- Operates the automated materials handling (AMH) machine, which includes loading materials onto belts and emptying bins from the AMH machine
- Retrieves and fulfills library material holds
- Maintains the physical collections
- Perform duties as assigned by supervisors
