About The Position

The Teen Camp Director administers all camp records including participant registration, family information, and incident reports. This role also assists Camp Leadership in onboarding all camp staff and supports the administration of payroll on a daily basis under their direction. The Teen Camp Director upholds and follows all values, practices, and policies of the YMCA of Greater Springfield, setting and maintaining high performance standards for all staff and programming. They adhere to all camp policies, particularly those related to safety, and comply with the requirements of the local Department of Health and all other Massachusetts laws governing summer camp programs. This position works closely with Camp Leadership to support, facilitate, and implement camp programs such as attendance, transportation, games, activities, swimming, and other typical day camp activities. The Teen Camp Director works with staff to ensure a safe environment for participants, promotes best practices in customer service, and represents the YMCA professionally, fostering a positive and cheerful environment during each work shift. Occasional weekend and overnight shifts are required. This list of responsibilities is not meant to be all-inclusive and may be adjusted to meet operational needs.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old at time of hire.
  • Associate /Bachelor's degree in related course work (e.g. Education, Social Work, Ecology).
  • At least 4 years of experience in programming and camp operations or equivalent Y experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in program design and implementation.
  • At least 1 year of experience in managing staff.
  • Must have, or be willing to earn, and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • Ability to follow sound judgment calls in a fast-paced, participant-focused environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide organizational leadership, coaching, and personal development support.
  • Proven experience in teaching and directing diverse populations in youth enrichment programs.
  • Must be able to role-model positive behaviors.
  • Must be able to work in a high-value, and potentially high-stress, environment.
  • An ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Exhibit core YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Exhibit excellent relationship building skills, including conflict and issue resolution with staff and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to swim, ride a bicycle, get wet (pool and rain), traverse wooded terrain, and be exposed to outdoor summer conditions for extended periods of time.

  • Additional years of professional experience or a Rank of E-5 or better may be used in lieu of education requirements where permitted.

  • Represents the YMCA in a professional manner and promotes a positive and cheerful environment during each work shift.
  • Performs occasional weekend and overnight shifts.
  • May be adjusted to meet the operational needs.
