About The Position

IMEG is seeking a Technology Construction Administrator for their Chicago, IL office. This role involves performing site observations during construction, providing information to contractors, and keeping engineers informed of project status and potential issues. The Construction Administrator will observe work through meetings and site visits to ensure compliance with contract documents, supporting engineering teams focused on vertical building design.

Requirements

  • Must be familiar with design processes and interpretation of architectural and engineering design documents.
  • Knowledge of design and construction techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans and drawings.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings and structures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Ability to travel 20-50% with occasional overnight stays.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Science) or Associate Degree preferred in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent.
  • 6 years of experience minimum required, 10 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry OR Associates degree, or certificate, in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.
  • 10 years of experience minimum required, 14 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry.
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.
  • Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
  • Ability to climb ladders and safely maneuver around construction sites.

  • Field experience or skilled trades a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review project, scope of work, and budget for contracted services.
  • Meet with the Operations Manager, Project Managers and design engineers to review expectations and role.
  • Prepare a work schedule and time projections, coordinating with Construction Supervisor and design engineers.
  • Review contract documents with contractors, clarify and interpret them, and obtain information from design engineers.
  • Issue reports regarding deficiencies in the project.
  • Collect data and review change orders with the design engineer.
  • Prepare project close out documents.
  • Confer with Architect concerning areas of construction coordination issues between architectural and engineering design.
  • Coordinate with design engineer, record and document events and circumstances.
  • Review applications for payment submitted by the Contractor and forward to Project Manager with recommendation for disposition.
  • Assist Client with final observation of the work and receive necessary documentation from Contractor at the completion of the work.
  • Attend construction progress meetings as required in the service contract and report proceedings.
