About The Position

As an IRL Technologist at the American Red Cross, perform basic and advanced donor and patient testing and interpret results to determine donor-recipient compatibility. Resolve compatibility problems and provide intermediate reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services. The role also includes coordinating samples, managing reagents and records, supporting equipment and software maintenance, and assuming lead responsibilities such as record review and training.

The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with rotating on-call duties on weekends and holidays.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry.
• MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), or equivalent certification.
• Licensure if required by the state.
• Minimum of 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for communicating effectively with internal and external customers.
• Leadership skills.
• Ability to work on a team.

• SBB (ASCP) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consult and communicate with staff at other medical facilities to resolve complex serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients.
• Manage receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples.
• Assist with the daily workflow of patient and donor work.
• Document supply and equipment problems.
• Manage reagent inventory, including ordering, receiving, inspecting, and preparing reagents.
• Perform and interpret basic and complex donor and/or patient testing procedures and complete required quality control in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
• Recognize testing irregularities, identify their causes, determine solutions, and resolve problems.
• Assist Technologist I and II staff with problem resolution.
• Maintain, edit, and review computer and manual records to ensure accurate recordkeeping; maintain accurate, legible, and complete records.
• Perform maintenance, repair, and validation of laboratory equipment and maintain laboratory software.
• Assume lead responsibilities, including record review and training.
• Assist in concern management.
