About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for an Engineering and Operations Technician to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. We are hiring a candidate to work night shifts. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centers. The Engineering and Operations Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. The Engineering and Operations Technician serves as a technical resource to support Amazon within its data centers. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. Engineering and Operations Technician’s are also tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities. Engineering and Operations Technician’s are Amazon’s front line respondents for electrical and mechanical issued affecting Amazon's availability. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, switchboards/switch-gears, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, CRAHUs, CRAC's, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems. This position requires that the candidate selected obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Data Center Operations, Building Operations, or an equivalent mission-critical environment.
  • In-depth understanding of electrical and mechanical data center systems, including generators, transformers, electrical distribution gears, uninterruptible power systems (UPS), automatic transfer switches (ATS), pumps, ventilation and air conditioning units (AHU, CRAH, CRAC), as well as building management systems (BMS), electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), and data trend analysis.
  • Ability to work on-call and provide after-hours support when required.
  • Candidates should be able to lift up to 49 lbs and or work at heights and from ladders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, in French and English.
  • Bilingualism French and English is required for this position due to the nature of the role that requires interaction with other Amazon entities globally and with Amazon employees and stakeholders in other provinces in Canada.
  • Must obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education in an Electrical or Mechanical trade, or a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering.
  • Proficient computer skills to navigate various tools, communicate via email, analyze data (KPIs, metrics, and dashboards), and use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a complex, fast-paced environment.
