About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for an Engineering and Operations Technician to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centers. The Engineering and Operations Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. The Engineering and Operations Technician serves as a technical resource to support Amazon within its data centers. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. Engineering and Operations Technician’s are also tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities. Engineering and Operations Technician’s are Amazon’s front line respondents for electrical and mechanical issued affecting Amazon's availability. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, switchboards/switch-gears, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, CRAHUs, CRAC's, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems. This position requires that the candidate selected obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 1+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications, or 6+ months of Microsoft Office products and applications experience

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree
  • Professional Engineering registration, or experience in design review process to incorporate electrical, mechanical, automation controls solutions to drive equipment reliability and standards

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring alarms and systems that manage power, cooling, and fire suppression in the data center.
  • Coordinating vendor work on-site to ensure equipment is maintained and uptime is preserved.
  • Supporting other teams and sites during events and planned works.
  • Handling rack installations and powering up equipment.
  • Monitoring and facilitating the handover of new equipment.
  • Sharing knowledge and supporting new team members.
  • Participating in event response drills.
