The Plant Utilities Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing utility systems and equipment, with the goal of minimizing equipment downtime and meeting efficiency goals. This role requires adherence to all plant and safety policies, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). The technician will ensure equipment meets safety standards and regulations. Key responsibilities include operating, maintaining, and repairing various utility systems such as steam boilers, glycol chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, nitrogen generation, CO2 recovery, multiple reverse osmosis units, and other bulk commodities. Additionally, the role involves managing the wastewater treatment plant and aquifer injection wells. The technician will analyze data from control, mechanical, electrical, chemical, and biological systems to initiate changes for continuous, cost-effective treatment within equipment requirements and state discharge permit limits. They will also initiate corrective actions during outages, repairs, breakdowns, or spills at the wastewater treatment plant, and perform basic and advanced laboratory tests, including routine and non-routine analysis of waste streams and utility systems (e.g., boiler chemicals, well water quality, filtration equipment). The position also entails performing routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance on associated equipment, troubleshooting equipment effectively to minimize unplanned downtime, and employing root-cause problem-solving for equipment repairs and improvements. Accurate record-keeping of maintenance activities, parts used, and observations is crucial, as is timely completion of PMs/work order paperwork. The technician will collaborate with brewing and other departments to coordinate maintenance without disrupting manufacturing, communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, and find parts in the CMMS system, ensuring proper documentation of inventory usage. Optimizing resource utilization, including tools and equipment, is also a key aspect. Smooth shift changes are facilitated by communicating important information to incoming shifts. Concerns related to safety, quality, performance goals, productivity, continuous improvement, and teamwork are to be escalated to the supervisor. The role involves transferring specialist technical knowledge with peers and team members and working with leadership on continuous improvement projects, equipment/facility upgrades, and permanent corrective measures for recurring problems.
