Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of experience related to construction, maintenance, or repair
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods
  • Ability to work safely around mechanical, electrical, chemical, confined-space, and other field-related hazards
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and equipment
  • Dependable
  • Safety-conscious
  • Comfortable performing physically demanding work in an outdoor environment
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a crew

  • Experience using common hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and construction equipment

Responsibilities

  • Construct, operate, maintain, and repair the City's water distribution and wastewater collection and treatment systems.
  • Inspect and maintain wells, reservoirs, pumping stations, meters, hydrants, chlorination equipment, and other utility infrastructure.
  • Assist with repairing water mains, installing service connections and valves, flushing hydrants, operating wastewater pump stations, and maintaining treatment plant equipment.
  • Perform pavement cutting, ditch digging, pipe installation and repair, backfilling, and grounds maintenance.
  • Read meters.
  • Operate construction equipment such as dump trucks, skid steers, compactors, pumps, compressors, and backhoes.
  • Participate in a rotational on-call schedule for utility emergencies.
