About The Position

This full-time, day-shift position in the Adult Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties. The technician administers care to designated patients under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team. The role also helps maintain a clean and orderly patient environment and provides information, directions, and other assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers, and vendors. Duties may include scheduling patient tests and procedures, maintaining patient records, signing patients in and out of the unit, and ordering, receiving, and delivering equipment and supplies. Continuous observation, including suicide prevention, may be required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA, or attainment of certification upon completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills.
