About The Position

Messer owns and operates a World Class fleet repair and refurbishment center in scenic Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the team performs maintenance, repair, and refurbishment work on transport equipment to ensure safe and reliable assets for the company. The core work of the site is to restore fleet trailers to “Like New” condition. In addition to welding and fabrication work, the site also completes assembly, wiring, hydraulics, pneumatics, rebuilding of components, testing, and certification of equipment. Why Messer? Position summary This position, reporting directly to the site Production Supervisor, is responsible for executing site wide support workstreams to keep the trailer rebuild processes flowing with minimal interruption.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Ability to do basic math
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop personal skills and abilities
  • Strong ability to take direction and input from more experienced co-workers
  • Basic computer skills
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Clean driving record
  • Basic mechanics tool set, or the willingness and ability to procure one within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • CDL drivers license for around town transit of equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Previous experience in a fabrication shop, body shop, or other manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Assist the site Parts Specialist with inventory management, procurement of parts from vendors, placement of parts in the fabrication and assembly areas, and other inventory items as needed
  • Assist the Lead Technician with checking in equipment as it arrives on site for rebuild
  • Assist the site Welder-Fabricators with breaking down and disassembly of incoming trailers for rebuilding
  • Perform site wide general maintenance and upkeep on facilities and equipment as needed
  • Other miscellaneous site tasks and responsibilities as dictated by the site leadership team
