About The Position

The Machine Setter (Technician) is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing plastic injection molding equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, improving process performance, and supporting production goals. Technicians at higher levels take on increased responsibility for troubleshooting, training, and process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare molds, tooling, and equipment for production changeovers in compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Review production schedules and prioritize setups
  • Perform mold changes, including installation/removal of tooling, auxiliary equipment, and peripherals
  • Set machines according to technical specifications and production requirements
  • Ensure machines are properly supplied with raw materials
  • Perform startup checks to ensure safety, correct materials, and required documentation are in place
  • Verify workstation setup and maintain organization and cleanliness (5S)
  • Validate production readiness through sample inspections (dimensional and visual checks)
  • Minimize scrap and ensure efficient startup to full production
  • Monitor machine performance, process parameters, and cycle times
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues to maintain quality and efficiency
  • Make adjustments to correct deviations and prevent defects
  • Investigate recurring interruptions and implement preventive solutions
  • Document process changes, issues, and corrective actions
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance (Level 1)
  • Ensure machines and equipment are in good working condition
  • Report or escalate issues requiring advanced maintenance support
  • Participate in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce scrap and improve efficiency
  • Support efforts to optimize cycle times and overall equipment performance
  • Provide technical support to operators and production teams
  • Train and mentor operators, leads, and other technicians
  • Identify skill gaps and support development of training plans
  • Assist in resolving complex technical or quality issues
  • Support new product launches, trials, and process development
  • Help update and improve technical documentation and standards
