About The Position

Technician II / Operator 2 is a junior role at our FANUC MH facility, responsible for performing semi-independent CNC machine operations, including CNC lathes and multi-axis vertical and horizontal machining centers, to produce high-precision paint robot components. This position builds off Operator 1 skills, focusing on consistent machine operation, basic troubleshooting, and quality assurance under moderate supervision, ensuring parts meet print specifications. Technician I / Operator 2 collaborates with machinists and production supervisors to improve efficiency and prepares for advancement to Machinist 1 by developing CNC operation proficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment, with at least 1 year of CNC machine operation (lathes or machining centers)
  • Basic blueprint comprehension (e.g., identifying rev. level and notes)
  • Basic usage of QA supplied inspection equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers)
  • Basic familiarity with FANUC controls
  • 92% on-time completion rate for machine operation and support tasks, minimizing delays with moderate supervision
  • Lift materials or tools up to 25 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational training or coursework in machining may substitute for experience
  • Exposure to Mastercam through training or prior work
  • Experience with materials like Delrin or stainless steel
  • Familiarity with metric-based measurements and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC lathes and multi-axis CNC machining centers (e.g., FANUC ROBODRILLs) with moderate independence, following Mastercam-generated CNC programs and setup sheets to produce parts per print specifications.
  • Assist machinists with machine setups for CNC lathes and machining centers, including loading tools and work holding fixtures, under moderate supervision.
  • Conduct in-process inspections using measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to verify parts meet print specifications, escalating complex issues to machinists.
  • Identify and report basic operational issues (e.g., tool wear, machine alarms) on CNC lathes or machining centers, performing minor adjustments with guidance to maintain print compliance.
  • Load, unload, and manage raw materials (e.g., Delrin, 316 stainless steel) for CNC lathes and machining centers, ensuring proper storage and handling to prevent damage.
  • Maintain production logs, inspection records, and shift reports in metric units, supporting FAI and FPI processes.
  • Retrieve and organize tools from the tool crib, proactively reporting shortages to maintain 98% tool availability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and adhere to shop safety and 5S standards, assisting in minor machine maintenance (e.g., coolant checks) for lathes and machining centers.
  • Participate in training on CNC lathe and machining center operation, FANUC controls, and basic Mastercam navigation to prepare for Machinist 1 responsibilities.
