About The Position

The Met Lab Technician II is responsible for preparing samples for analysis and performing a variety of metallurgical testing and evaluation activities. This role supports laboratory operations through mechanical, metallographic, magnetic, and heat-treat testing while ensuring accurate data collection and documentation. The ideal candidate will have prior manufacturing, laboratory, or metallurgical experience and the ability to work independently with moderate supervision in a production-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience as determined by department management.
  • One or more years of relevant manufacturing, laboratory, testing, or metallurgical experience.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and laboratory practices.
  • Ability to operate general metallurgical and laboratory equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve routine to moderately complex problems using established processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical training in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience performing mechanical, metallographic, magnetic, or heat treatment testing.
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing, quality, or laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with sample preparation techniques and metallurgical analysis.
  • Experience using laboratory information systems, databases, or manufacturing software.
  • Forklift certification or material handling experience.
  • Experience interpreting specifications, testing procedures, and quality standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare material samples for metallurgical analysis and examination.
  • Perform a variety of mechanical tests, including hardness, tensile, tension, and resistivity testing.
  • Conduct metallographic testing utilizing etchants, polishing equipment, and metallographic laboratory equipment.
  • Collect, analyze, and accurately record test data and evaluation results.
  • Enter and maintain test results within company systems and databases.
  • Operate and maintain general metallurgical and laboratory equipment.
  • Support laboratory operations within Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing, or Heat Treating areas.
  • Troubleshoot routine testing issues using established procedures and processes.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.
