About The Position

The City of Fort Collins Operations Team is hiring for a Technician II, Energy Services (HVAC) position. Work involves maintaining our building heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment for roughly 100 City buildings. This involves planning, maintenance, diagnostics, testing, installation, repairs & replacement, and coordinating outside contractors for these similar items. This position collaborates with other technicians including HVAC, BRM, aquatics, electrical, and controls. This position works with our facility project managers to collaborate on major renovations and new construction projects to incorporate the most efficient systems possible and find ways to conserve energy and achieve the City's climate action goals.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in a commercial HVAC environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • EPA Certification to handle refrigerants
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Must be able to pass background and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification with an ability to work in highly secured areas.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • Educates customers on energy usage, and performs diagnostic testing on structural/mechanical systems
  • Collects, creates and enters data on detailed work orders.
  • Calibrates controls, replaces bearings and shafts, rewires equipment, fabricates and installs sheet metal, and retrofits new components to existing equipment.
  • Operates and equips service vehicle.
  • May direct of oversee the work of temporary employees and contractors.
  • May prepare bids or recommend option for replacing, repairing or adding to HVAC equipment or systems
  • Interprets engineering drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Adjusts temperature and monitors sensors on the City's building automation and control software.
