About The Position

The primary function of this position is to perform moderate mechanical repairs and assembly on compact construction equipment by troubleshooting and using various diagnostic equipment. This role involves using manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams for independent troubleshooting and repair. The technician will utilize lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to move parts, and hand and power tools for removal, installation, rebuilding, repair, and testing of components. They will also use miscellaneous resources and computers for parts referencing and data entry, and climb onto, under, and into vehicles to access all parts. Additionally, the role includes performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairing engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components. Reprogramming equipment controllers using instruments and computers is also part of the duties. The technician will also use power washers and spray paint equipment for cleaning and painting vehicles.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Three years direct work experience.
  • Working knowledge of CAT literature systems.
  • Proficient in at least one mechanical system (i.e., hydraulics, transmissions, electrical, etc.).
  • Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs.
  • Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 112 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
  • Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
  • Exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information is required.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble/re-assemble parts or equipment.
  • Clean parts with rags, cleaners, and power washers.
  • Use test equipment to make diagnostic checks.
  • Control powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
  • Climb onto, under, and into vehicles to gain access to all parts.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts, and other aids to move items off vehicles and to locations for repair and reassembly.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Use power washers and spray paint equipment to clean and paint vehicles.
  • Use instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
