About The Position

QAI Laboratories Ltd. (QAI) is a multi-national professional certification body, test laboratory, and inspection agency with offices throughout North America and Asia. Founded in 1995, QAI provides services to manufacturers of building products, electrical products, vehicles, and other regulated products. QAI is currently looking for a Technician – Doors & Windows testing - to join our Building Products team in Burnaby, BC.

Requirements

  • Have a technical diploma or completed a related trades program from an accredited Institution.
  • Be able to write reports using technical terminologies pertaining to the industry.
  • Be able to read and understand a set of technical plans and drawings.
  • Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical codes and standards towards product certification, testing, and inspection projects.
  • Be personable, friendly, and able to explain code and regulatory requirements to clients both verbally and written in English.
  • Work well in a diverse team environment.
  • Possess MS Office skills and proficiency with email.
  • Hold a valid Canadian driver's license.
  • Hold a valid passport or be able to obtain a valid passport to gain access to the USA and other international destinations.
  • Be self-motivated, detail oriented, adaptable and eager to learn
  • Practical knowledge in the areas of building science and fenestration.
  • Able to meet expected timelines and grasps the concept of prioritization.
  • Able to multi-task and coordinate many activities across multiple departments, teams, and locations within the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • science or engineering technology diploma such as Technical Writing, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural and Building Technology or anything related to building science and construction industry.
  • Recent graduates are welcome to apply
  • Experience with construction methods and building science would be a plus
  • Previous experience with construction materials and building code compliance practices in the US and Canada

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical testing of fenestration products (windows, doors, and skylights) to determine physical performance of products
  • Construct and install test samples per standard requirements
  • Accurately record and document test results into a concise report
  • Conduct factory inspections, including traveling throughout Canada and the USA to perform inspections at manufacturing sites.
  • Clearly communicate with customers through written and verbal communication regarding their projects.
  • Review drawings and documents relating to a variety of fenestration product to determine compliance with the relevant codes, standards, or regulations.
  • Become familiar with the QAI quality system and administrative procedures.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with customers and staff.
  • Work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Provide support to the QAI sales team.
  • Participate in an energetic diverse team with a can-do attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee.
