About The Position

Virginia Natural Gas is seeking a General Technician to join its Field Operations team. This is an entry-level, developmental position with opportunities for advancement and long-term career growth in the natural gas industry. The position is based at a Virginia Natural Gas office in Chesapeake or Newport News, Virginia. Work is predominantly outdoors and may take place in all types of terrain and weather. The role requires safe driving, willingness to travel (approximately 5% of the time), ability to work extended hours, and use of company-provided personal protective equipment. This is a bargaining-unit position represented by IBEW Local 50 and a DOT-covered classification subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening. Transitioning military personnel are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• No previous experience is required.
• Pass the DOT drug test.
• Be operator qualified in accordance with the Company Plan.
• Hold a valid Virginia state driver's license.
• Be able to drive safely, work extended hours, travel approximately 5% of the time, and wear company-provided personal protective equipment.
• Be physically able to stoop, bend, crawl, walk, climb ladders, and lift more than 75 pounds.
• Have a keen sense of smell, hearing, vision, and color identification.
• Be able to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently complete customer and compliance orders along an assigned route, following company policies, procedures, and operator qualification procedures.
• Observe safety requirements and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance.
• Perform soft orders, including changes of account, deactivations, shutoffs for nonpayment, three-year inspections, and general inspections.
• Perform minor maintenance on meter sets, including installing splash guards and cleaning and painting meters or piping.
• Perform meter observations and readings.
